Whenever I see Mrs Ibukun Awosika, the thought of my Mum floods my mind. Both women are 54 year old and are both successful in their respective endeavors. While success and fulfillment to Mrs Ibukun means; being the chairman of one of the most highly respected bank in Nigeria and owning stakes in different multinational companies, success to my mum means raising/training us her children and affording us as much education to the best that providence had blessed her grit... One of the first most uncertain but decisive decisions I made all my life was the day I chose to serve the Traditional Igbo Apprenticeship. It was uncertain because, every year, during those days while I was still in the village, I  see a lot of people being brought back home by their masters, owing to either one of the many prevalent issues of Umuboyi (Stewardship) or all. Some couple of days ago, I turned 25. Twenty-five really is a funny age.  Optimistically, if I am to live to be 100 years old, I have already lived one quarter of my life. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just a sobering realisation. One that has really allowed me to see what I want out of life and pushed me to reflect on my journey so far. Life sure is interesting. For a 25-year-old, I’ve had more than my fair share of successes and failures. I have definitely come a long way over the last couple of years. Today is my birthday, I planned on writing something else but then, I ended up with this note to my future self. In five years time, I’ll come back here to see how far I’ve come. Life is a gift and we just have to make the most of it. It is okay to dream, but what is more important is the work you are willing to give in to make your dreams and desires come through.
